A booking is for a weekly, 1 hour, 1-to-1 tuition session, either via Zoom or in Fiona’s home.
I am a fully qualified teacher with over 35 years of experience teaching in UK schools and tutoring privately.
When places are filled, they are usually filled for the whole year, and it is not often that extra slots become available mid-year. I do offer group tuition. 1-to-1 tuition allows for bespoke tutoring at the individual’s pace.
The fee for 1:1 is £42 per hour, payable either in advance monthly or at the time of the session, either by cash bank transfer. Both methods work equally well for me, so please choose whichever is more convenient for you. Bank transfer payment details are provided on booking.
If a payment for a previous session is outstanding, a reminder will be sent. I will be unable to provide further tuition until payment has been received. Some people find it helpful to set up a recurring payment.
Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel a session, please give at least 24 hours notice. I may be able to offer an alternative slot, if one is available. Cancellations made at shorter notice than 24 hours will still be charged. It is helpful to know about holidays or planned absences as far in advance as possible please, so that I can plan accordingly. Please try to keep missed sessions to a minimum, as consistent, regular sessions are necessary for students to maintain momentum and progress. If the number of unpaid cancellations becomes unfeasible, I may need to cease tuition and offer the space to another family.
As far as possible in advance, I will notify you of any personal holiday plans or unavailable dates of my own.
Other than Christmas, I usually continue throughout school holidays, bank holidays and other occasions such as Easter Day, Father’s Day and Mother’s Day. If you would prefer to take a break during school holidays, or need to cancel for other special occasions, please notify me in advance, as above. Breaks during school holidays are not charged, provided notice is given according to the cancellation policy above.
I will always do my best to have lessons starting on time.
If at any point, you wish to discontinue tuition, please give a minimum of two weeks’ notice.
1-to-1 tuition is very effective and productive when the student is fully on board and motivated to learn. Whilst it is rare, if a student becomes reluctant, uncooperative or disengaged, then tuition could become counter-productive and very hard to make progress. If this happens, I’ll discuss with you whether it is more appropriate to continue or to stop.
For safeguarding reasons, I must have information regarding any allergies etc.
Please ensure the Zoo. student has a quiet, undisturbed place to work, with a table or desk, and their own pencil, rubber and ruler. Please do not use a filter on the Zoom call.
I can usually give parents a quick, informal, verbal update at the end of a session, including any areas of particular strength or difficulty. In some sensitive cases, this feedback may be better given by email, out of earshot of the student. Pupils who attend in person are asked to purchase a small book which I can write in for the main work we have covered in the session.
For11+ tuition, I always endeavour to prepare students as thoroughly as possible in the time that we have. However, since their performance on the day must ultimately be their own responsibility, I am unable to make any guarantees about their performance during their tests.
Study materials for use during our sessions are provided within the fee. However, for 11plus Test students, I always recommend investing in suitable 11+ Test practice workbooks, to use in between tuition sessions. This will provide regular reinforcement of the skills learnt during tuition sessions, and improve mental agility and stamina – both essential for passing the tests.
For the purposes of contacting you regarding tuition, I will need to hold records of your name, telephone number and email address, as well as my own records of students’ progress. These details will not be shared with others.
When all my spaces are filled, I use a waiting list, which I add prospective clients’ contact details to, with their agreement.
Continuing with your booking will be taken as confirmation that you have read, understood and agreed these conditions. Please do ask me if anything is unclear, or if you need more information.
